Can I use IMAP to get my email?

Yes.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is one of the ways mail can be accessed through a method other than logging into the account through a webmail site.  Unlike POP3 access, IMAP allows the user to access mail from multiple locations while leaving the messages on the server.  This way, mail can be accessed through a variety of computers, devices, and programs but still remain on the server for future access.  While some mail programs, such as Outlook, allow you to set the POP3 access to leave a copy of the messages on the server, many do not thus creating the need for IMAP access.

To configure your mail client for IMAP access, use the following guidelines:
  • Use imap.emailsrvr.com as the incoming and outgoing server
  • Use your full email address as the user name
  • Be sure to select that the outgoing server requires authentication
  • Don't select anything that says "Use Secure Password Authentication"
  • Set the incoming port to 143
